Happy Snow Day

My DH wanted to get some meat birds when we first got chickens. I wasn't enthusiastic...wasn't sure I'd be able to eat/cook a chicken I actually raised. After thinking about it, I was ok with the whole idea but then he decided not to get them. I'm definitely in for a meet up~I'm curious to see how it's done!

Ok then, we will have to have a gathering when the boys reach processing age. I don't like plucking so Coupe, that is alllllll yours

Hi, I'm new, have posted a few times on the Southern Dutchess thread, but thought I'd try here as well. I'm in Salt Point (Pleasant Valley), have 21 chickens & getting the itch to start the incubator. Have eggs coming in a few weeks including Khaki Campbell duck eggs. I saw that a few of you were talking about processing. I'd like to learn. Back when "Hudson Valley Chickens" was still going strong, someone had offered to teach others how to process. Not sure if the event ever took place. I did win a killing cone that was part of a raffle at one of the tailgate sales years ago, but it sits in my barn, waiting... Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Okay, I ordered my chicks from Cackle, they are delivering Feb 19......I never ordered chicks thru the mail...do I go to post office and pick up? I am concerned if they deliver they will be outside in cold till I get home.

Call your post office and tell them when you are expecting them to arrive. Ask them to hold them there and call you for pick up. It saves the little guys another cold truck ride since they will usually hold them inside for you. I actually pick mine up at my mail hub, it saves them a day and two truck rides...

Does anyone know a good breeder of LF Silver Laced Wyandottes in NY? I want to buy some hatching eggs from some good show quality stock! I also need a Lavender Orpington Roo if anyone knows of somone selling one!
