Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

OUCH! Sorry :(

From what I've been reading in BYC hatching is pretty complicated.
I hope you're able to find more eggs and try again.
Speaking of Orps....we picked up a black and a blue Orpington~ both babies ($8 each) a few weeks ago. SO stinkin' cute!! But I think the blue one (on the right) is a roo (see pics below..what do you think?). If it's a roo, I'm going to have to give him up.

I was afraid you'd say that lol.

Our coop is situated in the middle of our backyard and there's a good amount of yardage between our house and the neighbors' houses, but I can't push my luck with a crowing roo. My DH doesn't give a hoot but I do! The last thing we need is to p-off the neighbors or worse, the Town.

I'll wait and see. Thanks Coupe~ Happy Friday!!

Do you have pics of him/her? Also are rooster alowwed in your town? I know most towns will let you have hens, but not roosters.
On another note...
I am changing my coop and run to sand floors today!!! Im so excited.. We live right next to a quary, but we havnt always got along with the owner(long story). I got the courage to ask him if he sold sand and he gave it to me for free!!! hes bringing a loader full over today. So i have lots of shoveling ahead of me.
Happy Friday to you too!!! It such a beautiful day out! Hope your not stuck at work!

Chickens are allowed in New Windsor but only on 5+ acres. We have 2.5 acres. I'm afraid a roo would aggravate the neighbors and they'd go right to the Town to complain.

NICE on the sand! I use Sweet PDZ and pine shavings in our coop but ran into some trouble when I cleaned it out a couple of weeks ago (which was my 1st time cleaning it). I'm dreading the next cleaning which has to be done soon. The PDZ works great to control the smell but all that poop.......ugh. Anyway...........
When DH built the coop, he made a drawer with trays that cover the floor of the coop. When I pull the drawer out, the pine shavings pile up at the opening which makes it hard to pull the drawer out completely in order to empty the trays. He has to make some adjustments which will (hopefully) make things easier. I've been reading that sand is really quick and easy to clean with a kitty litter scoop so I'm considering trying sand and maybe a poop board under the roosts in the future. Let me know how you like the sand? I'd love to see pictures when you're finished shoveling!!
It was definitely a beautiful day to be outside. I thought winter would never end. I took the day off to do some landscaping but I spent far more time than I should have in the run watching The Ladies

I soooo need a life..............

I will def. Post pics when i finish! I dont know ifi will be putting it in the coop yet because i have to make some adjustments to it first.
It was beautiful out..i got a nice tan lol
I have a chair in my chicken and duck run, so i can sit and watch them!! Everyone thinks im crazy, but its sorta of relaxing watching them!!

WOOT!! i just had tye first chicken of the spring hatch!! Its a silver spangled hamburg!! They where the only eggs to survive the temp spike of the incubator!! But i only had 3 of them in there :(

Yay! Congratulations!!! SO happy not all was lost in the Big Incubator Fry :)
LOL I have a chair in the run too! I get home from work, pour a glass of wine and out to the run I go to before DH & DS get home. Of course I should utilize that time to do some laundry and start dinner but I don't. One day last week we were having so much fun watching the chickens we lost track of the time and wound up calling for Chinese food lol. Whoops!

Lol you can def. Lose track of time watching them...i just got 2 muscovy hens for my drake and i sat and watched them for hours yesturday.
Hmmm chinese food sounds so good right now! Havnt had it in forever!! We eat really late here, so i cant get away with not making dinner enless the BF wants to go out and eat.
Do you have any pics of your chickens?
