Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

Oh the horrors, and always when you have company! The hens pecked at the roosters frostbite! I ran him into my bathroom and I tell you I have never seen so much blood in my life. It was everywhere. He is ok, but I (and my guests) were traumatized!

Yikes!!! How is your rooster?? Better, I hope! How does the coop feel now that it's insulated? Only one of my coops is insulated. I stuck my head in there last week when it was really cold and it didn't feel too bad. The other coop (where the Nuggets are ~ 5 Orpingtons and 2 EE's) isn't insulated and it actually felt a little warmer than the insulated one. The Orps must give off some seriously hot body heat !!

It has been about 7-10 degrees warmer in there than the outside temp. Now if they would stay inside when it is cold and windy we'd really accomplish something. The rooster is back with the flock now keeping order and peace among the ladies.
