Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

Just the very tips of the roosters comb shows frostbite. We have had some really miserable weather lately. Mine are still laying....4 to 6 eggs per day from 7 hens. All feet are yellow, combS and waddles are red. We use Lightening Tree Farm layer feed and throw LTF scratch 30 minutes before they roost. Some nice oatmeal w tuna and ham one very cold morning before the storm. Oatmeal w bacon fat, feed and green beans the morning after. Not every morning but when the weather is severe. Fermented mash late morning or early afternoon. No heat, plenty of straw, lots of wind blocks.

drinking a lot more water. We have a round water heater w metal sleeve insert waterer. Never will own plastic again. We use an automatic waterer with nipples in the summer.

Sorry to hear about your Muscovie Lexi :-( Well....a couple of The Nuggets started laying. So far from that coop we have the black orp and 2 nuggets laying. The EE's haven't started yet. They're still freeloadin'. Ready for Christmas? I'll be the one walking through Toys R Us and the Mall this weekend....crying or cursing...depending on how things go.....!

Good Morning Everybody~

Just finished putting all of the Christmas decorations away. My son called me the Grinch more than a few times over the last couple of days which is about how long it took in between errands, Facebook, Candy Crush Saga, Bejeweled, BYC, etc. You know...important stuff! lol. I felt bad but it was one of those 'let's just get it over with' things I HATE to do

Anyway...just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year~ Hope it's a fun, safe night!
May 2014 bring you happy chickens and an abundance of eggs in your nesting boxes!
