Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

I have 8 chicks out in my shed with 2 heat lamps, they are 6 weeks old, what should I do if the power goes out tomorrow? I'm so sick of this weather :( I hope the power stays on over night. I'm nervous for my chickies. This is why my older girls don't have supplemental heat but the chicks still need it especially when it's in the negatives over night

Do you have any of those instant hotpacks? They work well. You can put them in the smallest reasonable box (or make a low cardboard ceiling) to trap the heat in so that their bodyheat helps to keep them warm and out of a draft. I have also used gallon milk jugs filled with hot water. They will snuggle up next to them to stay warm. Just keep in mind that you will want to unplug the lamps so that if they come when the power is back that they don't catch the cardboard on fire.

Good ideas! Thanks! Well they made it through the night. If worse comes to worse they can come inside but I dont have a brooder set up or anyanything. Hopefully the power stays on and I dont have to worry :)

Come pick me up! I need to get outta here

I just watched acouple snowmobiles go down my road and I can hear them all over! I would like to go out but I much rather stay in my warm house were im not freezing and getting wet lol plus I would have to shovel infront of the garage doors....ugh just to much work! Maybe when the BF gets home from plowing!
