I ordered my chicks in February, and now I learned that was not a good idea. Normally I would wait for tractor supply to get their chicks in, but I decided I wanted to do something different. I have never had chicks shipped to my house before so I didn't know what to expect. I bought 26 chicks off of McMurray Hatchery, I picked a few breeds that I liked and the rest was from the rainbow layer assortment. Well of course with my luck they shipped out at 1am on a Friday, so I know they got to the main post office on Saturday night possibly Sunday morning. Well I waited and waited and they never called, I even tried to find their number of course they didn't list it. Well I got a call Monday morning from my post office. I opened the box and only one didn't make it to my surprise. Then the next 3 days was a nightmare for me, I did everything I could but I lost 9 chicks all together. They're 9 weeks old now and running around their coop. I will never order that soon again, it was not fair for the chicks or me. I also was extremely disappointed with the way they shipped them, it was a box with small amounts of hay on the bottom and no dividers, so they all were piled on top of each other on one side. I think next time I want to try to hatch my on or wait till April.
