Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

I'm in Ulster Co and just put a bunch of Silkie eggs into the 'bator on Tuesday. Not sure if it's too far for you?
No it's not

Hey every one! New to the forum and getting into some eggs this year!

Moving up to Stuyvesant soon with my wife. Wanted to know if there are any farmers around me who wouldn't mind showing us a few things.

I would love some local connections for feed, lumber, and other things locally sourced, especially any good local breeders to buy chicks from to help start a good laying flock. Looking for mixed brown and colored eggs layers.

Hi and welcome!
This thread has not been to active lately. You might want to try the NY Chicken lover!!! Thread. It's been pretty active lately. There will be a chickenstock in may in NY. You will find chicks there. I believe someone on the Hudson valley farm swap posted a list of who breed what. They are on Facebook. I'm not familiar with the area you are moving to so I can help there. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome! Yes, I agree, this thread isn't as active as the NY thread -
I'm sure there's someone close to you. I checked & you're about 2 1/2 hrs from Delhi where I am.
So, I don't know much about Stuyvesant, but there's plenty of us in NY who'd be happy to supply chicks for your laying flock.

I raise Catskill Homesteaders, which are locally adapted, winter hardy, great foragers & layers of various shades of brown & green eggs.
I'm taking orders for chicks, as I'm going to start hatching chicks every 7-10 days as we get closer to spring.

Anyone within an hour drive from Peekskill? I am looking for hatching eggs, pullets or chicks who lay blue eggs or green, I have plenty of brown and beige and a white but sadly lost my legbar pullet late fall to a very daring hawk. thanks!

I heard someone in pine island is selling them. I don't have any contact info. Check craigslist. They might not be ready until April. I like the new Rees line eggs. A touch of green.

I sell mixed hatching eggs that include Easter Eggers and I also sell Easter Egger (and other) chicks, but just sold out of EE till next batch. I live in Esopus (12487), so not sure if I just squeeze in to your hour drive!

Thanks but I really want to make sure I get a green or blue layer. I can't keep many more laying hens, maybe just 2 or 3. Thank you though! If you have a pullet with a super pretty egg I'd be interested
