My free rare chick turned out to be a Dark Brahma rooster. He is now about 5x the size of my little Hamburg hens, and I am scared to death he is going to really hurt them. He climbs on them to breed them and you can't even see the hen underneath him. When he climbs off of them, they just lay there flat on the ground and take a minute or two to get up and walk off.

I am trying very hard to find him a home but if I can't.........???? Have you guys had any success with huge roosters and tiny hens?

I have 1 rooster, 14 hens. So in theory, these tiny ones should not be over-bred, but they do each get bred at least a couple times a day by him.

I really hate roosters, and I really very badly want him gone. In the future, I will tell McMurray to keep their free rare chick! I am just waiting until I can find someone who wants him as a flock rooster since I don't want to see him butchered. But I am very worried about my hens. Advice?

Conceivably he might inadvertantly injure the smaller hens. A quite common injury caused by large clumsy roosters is gashed sides just in front of the hens' legs. I never had much luck running massive roosters with smaller hens. It's a call that only you can make. Good luck at resolving this.

I just asked this question today in another thread but came here thinking I should have posted it here. I have a serama hen and Light brahma roo. They're both 5 mo. but he's freaking massive! But oh so sweet and gentle. I don't want to get rid of him but my serama just started laying and I'm afraid he'll try to mate with her and kill her!

Yes, I hear you! My Hamburg hens have started laying and I've found several cracked little white eggs of theirs in the nest boxes. I wonder if he caused the cracks while the egg was still in their tract? I am afraid he's going to break an egg inside of them from climbing on them because he's so big!

I am having no luck getting rid of him so far.

We got our "rare exotic chick" from McMurry also this past spring and its turned into a huge light brahma Roo. He is gorgeous but I also worry about his size with my sexlink and orpingtons and my sweet little american game who looks like she's part crow. I think they know they send out roosters.
