I have 4 Brahma x Naked Neck chicks which are just 3 weeks old. Admittedly, I am used to the rather long and slow size increase of Brahmas, but their growth rate seems to be extremely rapid.
At hatching they weighed between 50 and 55g and 2 of the 4 were very frail, needing help with hatching and glucose water etc for about 12 hours. However, they are now anything but. Tall, voracious appetites, feisty and HUGE. I weighed one today and s(he) was 210g....quadrupling the hatch weight at 3 weeks.
Maybe this prodigious weight gain is normal in this type of cross....or maybe this specific cross is leading to chicks growing like weeds.
Anyone got any thoughts?
