I bought 6 chicks together in April.

By week 12 one of my “Easter Eggers” Cookie had. A HUGE comb and wattle especially compared to all the others in the flock. I was preparing my 5 year
Old daughter for the inevitable refining of a Roo.

14.5 weeks rolls around, comb and wattle are even bigger … but Cookie drops it low in front of me. The next day there’s a soft shelled egg in the coop! The day after that she goes into the coop and sings the egg song and there’s a fresh brown egg in there!!

I was so sure she was a Roo because of that comb and wattle
Especially compared to that other Easter egger, but I’m glad I chose not to rehome before “crow or egg”…

But I’m not convinced she’s not a brown Leghorn instead or something? Any ideas? She lays brown eggs though…

Pics below of 12 weeks, 14.5 weeks, sister Nugget, and Cookie-Eggs.

Very pretty!

I'm not sure, but I'll ask mods to move this to the https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/what-breed-or-gender-is-this.15/ forum where you might get some help.

She's a pullet.
Oh she started laying eggs, so I know that now! But she had that huge comb and wattle at 12 weeks and on another forum everyone was dead set on rooster .. and so was I! Especially because she was too young for male plumage to
Show so only comb and wattle was there to tell

wanted to share that it’s not 100% apparently hah

I would say Welsummer too, but the floppy comb and the coloring seems a little off. Also, my Welsummer took ages to lay her first egg, something like 26+ weeks, and I believe that is typical for the breed.

She isn’t a Brown Leghorn, as they lay white eggs and have white earlobes.

My guess is that she’s an EE who happens to lay brown eggs. Many hatcheries mention that there is a low chance of their EEs laying brown eggs.

One of my Hoover hatchery Welsummers looks a lot like this one.
Oh, ok! I’ve only had two Welsummers, but both were from Meyer, so they both looked like each other and a bit different from OP’s bird. Did yours lay early too? Maybe mine are just late bloomers?
