Huge egg!

Hi All, I have three fine girls all laying well in their first year, approximately eight months old. This morning one of them (and I don't know which one) laid an enormous egg, it is 100g (approx. 4 ozs). They all seem fine but should I be concerned and anticipating any problems. Please can anyone advise me? We are new to chicken keeping but enjoying learning and any advice will be very welcome. Annie2sox Andalucia Spain.

That happens once in awhile with new layers. I wouldnt be to concerned. Keep an extra close eye on your girls to make sure no one is egg bound. If you do a quick search on 'egg bound' you will see symptoms to look out for. Other than someone having an 'ouchie' bottom, who ever it is will probably be fine!

You may get a few more whoppers, but its always better out, than in!
