Huge fox attacked

Thank you. I really appreciate the replies and help and support. I'm sure she did, too.
 
I think some birds are intelligent enough to know they need extra attention, and learn how to win our hearts, so we're happy to give it to them. Chickens are very social animals.

Once, I sat under a tree with some taller grass around it, and she came running in between, giving an alarm cry. I started looking around to see what she was hiding from. I heard her flapping, and looked back to see a snake strike at her from a coil in the grass. She jumped, batting its head with her wingtip, then just stood there watching it recoil for another strike. I tried to grab her, but she jumped aside, then back between us. I figured the snake was too big for her to eat, (about 4' long, maybe 1/2-3/4" thick, I later assessed,) but she didn't seem to want my help, so I backed off. She followed, scolding me for sitting before looking for danger, and not moving when she warned me about it.
