Huge injustice!

I am so sorry for you. I once went to the shelter in Baldwin Park to adopt a dog. I fell in love with this little pit bull mix. They let me spend time with her, and I started paper work on her. Then this guy comes out and literally takes her from my arms. Turns out there is automatic euthanasia rule for all pit bulls and pit mixes. She was never even supposed to be in the viewing cages. She was crossed with a lab and already spayed. Why spay a dog you are going to kill? Why kill based on breed? I have a 115lb Pit Bull unneutered male. He has been around cats and livestock and has never killed anything. Fed EX and UPS guy love him, saying he is one of the friendliest dogs they have come across. Even if a stray dog shows up all he want to do is play with them. He is fine being left alone with new chicks and other baby animals. When i got my pot belly pig she was only 2 days old and he slept curled around at night. It's not the breed that is bad it is the owners lack of training or the owner training them to fight.

I'm so sorry this happened, but please don't shut your love and caring away from other animals that need efforts like yours. You went to a length of trouble to find this dog a good home but a terrible mistake ended his life instead. For this I am sorry.
I have a feeling the VP is feeling terrible about this and another mistake they made was not getting back to you sooner with an apology. What is done is done but don't let your grief be in vain. Find a way to interject yourself if not with this shelter then another, in Bowser's memory. A bowser rule, or something?
Unless you know this VP to be a cold, uncaring person, then try to think of the good she has done in that shelter. Do it in Bowser's memory. He wouldn't want the human he woulda chose if he could have feeling hate, would he?
Return.... somebody there needs you and cannot tell you in words.

OP here. Ms Campo called back Friday afternoon and did apologize. She said she didn't see the notes of my interest and contact info. I suggested maybe this would be a good reason to institute a check off list for each DDay animal. To check adoption available date vs put down date, to look for any notes re interest to adopt ( both were missed in Bowser's case). They are going to consider this.
I will continue to donate to local animal causes- just not this humane society.
TY every one for you ideas and support.

PS Onthespot "OP's mistake was stewing on it for weeks. If you want a dog, get it that day. Period. I am truly sorry that you are sad, but you just waited too long. Sometimes protocols are not followed when there are "just too many" coming in." Just to clarify - the shelter put him down on his 6th day there. It was clearly a human error as his file was not fully reviewed. There are reasons for policy and procedures...and this dog lost his life because P&P were not followed.
