We bought 2 Pekin ducklings who are about 6 to 7 weeks old. They are huge. Already look full grown with lots of weight. We have always raised ducks but these are astoundingly big for their age. Can anyone tell me more about Pekins vs Jumbo Pekins?

At that age they should be about full size, but I know what you mean. My youngsters still look fatter than my adults, I think it may be something to do with them not having molted yet? I believe a lot of their poof is feathers, and it just makes them look fatter. [IMG]

I've been wondering about this too. We've gotten used to Khaki Campbells and now I got a couple of Pekins because my son had been asking for them. They are only 3 weeks old but HUGE! And they don't seem as interested in playing in water as the Khakis do. If I put a pan of water in for the Khakis they'd go wild splashing & flapping in it. These Pekins just drink from it and walk through it.

Are Pekins sort of the Cornish Xs of the duck world? Big & beefy, fast growing, a little dim?

I'd like to get a few pekins someday, I hear they are the friendliest breed of ducks.

they are big, but a lot of it is their "poof"
they are awesome ducks though. you'll love them more each day.
