Huge problem...

Nono, my avatar is "the cure was here before the cause" with like pristine nature as backdrop. Looking at the avatar of the thread starter with the "huge problem" it doesn't look to me like we can properly see/gauge the dimensions of his coop from that picture alone. Albeit he is standing up, or so looks from the POV the picture was taken, so there seems ample taking off room for the birds. To me it looks like all we're seeing is a corner of his coop in his avatar

I think that question was for the OP.

Here is the OP The Other People? I'm not so good at figurin acronyms. AS said I thought the Q was for the TS. OP is used here quite a bit, so would help to know, TY

OP is Original Poster. All comments/questions in a post should be directed toward that first post. If you're addressing anyone else, you should quote them (as I did you, here) to tamp down confusion as to who is being addressed. And yes, I still think the coop is a big cause of the issues.

Yes, still agree with @donrae and also wanted to ask the OP @JNGLFEVR to clarify: did you introduce these hens into an existing flock, or are they the only ones? I couldn't quite tell from the posts; sorry if you said this and I missed it.

LMAO: Well Geez, Aart, I wasn't born yesterday, nor am I that old to not bother figuring out cell phones enough to get into text-speak. But using OP for Thread Starter, as the OP is called on BYC is understandably confusing. ROFL, Nick

And thanks to Donrae. I dont think I'll be quoting often, unless it's actually required. And yes, coops are a big cause of most all issues, since we're all cooped up, live a boxed life, and neither we nor chickens did that for most of our evolution. Yeah, taking evolution backwards is a source of problems. Years ago, I took a mushroom course with Paul Stamets. He advocated growing in quonset hut. They are longitudinally rounded: https://www.google.com/search?q=quo...oTCKfo44DK1McCFY0Ykgodp8EJgA&biw=1057&bih=614 and that the right angles where walls meet floors and ceilings, then worse in corners, cause dead airspaces. This is why I put more DE and cleaning attention along edges and corners in the coop, which is a rectangular box -- came that way with the house.

I spend a lot of time reading a number of boards (far too much time really) and OP means original post(er) on all of them. I've never seen TS used. To me, OP is clear as day and TS would cause confusion.

X 2 - having been a member and moderator of many forums, boards and groups online I have never encountered "TS" - always "OP"

Are those your hens and their coop in your avatar? If so, that coop is pretty tiny. They may not physically have space to get onto the roost bars. Birds need some vertical room for take off/lift off, plus room to spread their wings, and the roost has to be far enough away from the walls and ceiling, etc. I'm thinking that may be a bit of the problem.

Agreed - the coop pictured appears to be one of the pre-fab jobs and the interior on those is simply not designed in good form as far as what actually works for keeping chickens. They are very much form over function. Can you snap a pic or two of the interior? Lack of appropriate size aside (which *is* a very common issue with these setups)- generally speaking the "roosts" in those things are quite unsuitable and the end result is a tendency for the birds to prefer the nest boxes when it comes to seeking a place to bed down for the night. One would think that a product marketed as being intended for use for chicken keeping would actually be designed in a manner that is appropriate for chickens, but it is more often than not quite the opposite.
