Huh? Son can hear Chicks in eggs from another room?!

My friend candled all of them and said none has went through the air cell yet but go ahead and put them on lockdown. Said it doesn't hurt to put them in lockdown early as long as they are at least 16 days old, which today is day 16.
Lets hope and pray. I'm keeping my eyes on them!

(wish there was a smiley for "BUG EYES")

I guess I REALLY SHOULD try some hearing aids once again........when it thunders, I think someone is knockin' on the front door.........

He could be. Well he's 4 years old, they have imagionations that are far beyond belief.

Not the bug eyes I had in mind. That's a "shock" bug eye. Im thinking of something more of "hawk eyes" type of bug eyes.

Mccord, if you and your son both heard cheeping, it means you had a chick pip into the airsac, miss_jayne is absolutely correct on this. You can hear them cheep when still in the shell, but not until they've pipped into the airsac. Congratulations mama, you should have babies soon. Get them into lockdown NOW, before they pip the shell. Especially since you can't be absolutely sure how long the guy's hen sat on them before he collected them, there's always the chance he was wrong about the amount of time.

Miss_jayne, hope you feel better soon.

How long someone has them sit before you incubate them has nothing to do with when they hatch. It doesn't matter who you get them from or how long they sat around they will all hatch the same day if your temperatures are correct. That last part is the key. If they hatch early your temps were high and if they hatch late your temps were low. The egg does nothing while it's sitting around at temps lower than the high 90s F. If you leave an egg sit on the counter for 2weeks then put it and one still warm from the hen's butt in an incubator they will hatch the same day. Provided the one that sat for 2weeks is still good. Hatch rates go down after the first week so quite a few 2week old eggs will not hatch.

Akane, while that is absolutely true in most cases, in this case, she said the guys broody hen had been sitting on them for 6 or more days when she got them and she brought them home and put them in her incubator. This would affect the amount of time they were in her incubator before hatching
