Hi all,

With a flock of 16 hens and one roo, have found no eggs for the past 5 days. Four birds are too young to lay, but I had been gettin 4 a day, after the hot hot summer. Now none, Tomorrow a padlock goes on. Oh well, it's the Soprano state....just be way with all the egg hysteria, people want nice wholesome eggs...Rob in NJ:/

A game cam would be nice to catch the stinker in the act

Check for snakes too, they will eat the eggs.
Sorry for your trouble. If it is a 2 legged predator, a sign about video surveillance might help too

oops, sorry for the double post, it hung up and when I checked the thread there was no post so I tried again.

Please don't talk about snakes....I have had "6" on my property this year that had to be removed with a shotgun...5 were in the henhouse with my eggs....

Check for any evidence that 1 or more hen's have developed a taste for eggs, look for wet spot's or dampness in the nest boxes or any shell remains. Just a thought, I never had one ever then one day I thought the same as you as my egg production dropped to Zero, then I went into the coop one day and caught her slurping one down. She was chicken soup that day because you can never ever cure an egg eater.

OMG! a six foot snake. We only have little garters here in this part of NJ and I have not seen any this year. I am happy, about that; Mike, no I have not seen any evidence of hens eating the eggs. Best, ROb

Sorry, Rob, but we have 6'+ black snakes here in the Flemington area. Central Jersey- you have them too. You just haven't seen them yet.
