Hard to say, it could've been an animal. Or it could've been a human. Still a really sad story. If other pets in the neighborhood start mysteriously dying, then they would know for sure.

This is why i keep my .22 loaded and ready at night, any noise hear i run outside to investigate. i hope they catch this person and do the same to them
