humane euthanasia

i have a chick that has a very badly deformed beak. You may have seen other posts by me on this forum. SHe is still not able to eat and we have chosen to put her down. the local vet has closed and my mom said my stepdad will probably do it for me. i was wondering what the best way to do it is i want her to die quickly and painlessly. i love her very much.

I personally use a heavy pair of kitchen shears on chicks. Good luck.

I know you are considering putting it down, but maybe you would consider just clipping off the tip of the beak, enough so it could eat. We have a hen with a crooked beak and a hen that has NO top beak.I don't know if it would work, but if you are planning on killing the chicken anyway, why not try it??

Use dog nail trimmers and trim just below where the beak bends.

yes! I too have a cross beak leading a happy normal life! I trim her beak every 3 weeks to a month or so. I feed her mash I make myself by adding warm water and vitamins to regular feed and mashing it up. feed her separately so she can eat without others bullying her. my cross beak is a joy she is kind and purrs with joy every evening before bed. she's a excellent mother to my youngest birds. she is going on 5 months old. she's my special girl.with a little bit of help from you she can lead a healthy happy life! give her a chance at life. our cross beak has been a blessing.!

thank you very much but we already had her put down. we took her to the vet and had them do it.she was starving and we could not bear to see her suffering any longer.

You did the right thing tongiechick. I do believe the others who have had scissor beaks have not have one as bad as yours, thank you for not letting her suffer.
