Humane Killing Euthanasia Methods

Thre are many different ways to dispatch a bird, from shooting it in the head to breaking its neck. I use the "broomstick" method myself, because you can't miss and it doesn't waste a bullet or a shell, it is quiet enough for the folks who can't shoot in town, and very simple. I would never use gas, it is too complicated for me.

Yes, but using gas is not one of them.

I find the easiest solution is a quick removal of the head. Takes a second, no more.

Some people just can't bear to do the deed so have to remove themselves from the act of killing. It does make killing or hurting something much much easier on the human as per many studies. Read up on: Milgram's experiment.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment

His original experiment was to study obedience, but it also touches upon how people will do things on whether or not they can see the person they are inflicting the "treatment" on. Further removed from the subject, the easier it was to inflict pain. Distancing the doer from the deed is one of the reasons gas chambers were implemented.

Many people can't just grab the bird with their bare hands and break the neck (which is truly free and what I do), so go to extents of freezing things "to sleep" or gassing them "to sleep" or giving drugs to put things "to sleep". People PAY 50-100 bucks to have their dogs put to sleep... when it comes to how humans feel about something, cost can become no matter. I know hunters who can shoot an animal for food, but who cannot bring themselves to bring a knife to a living animals neck with the intention of killing it. The knife or hands is much more personal than hitting a target 30-100 yards away.

There are many methods of killing something, and there are ways better than others. In many peoples mind, if they do not feel the "pain", or "see" the suffering, it is more humane regardless if it really is less painful for the animal being dispatched.

Destroying unwanted roosters is easy when they are little, or just hatched.. one way is to simply pull off their heads..

Another way is to take a cotton ball spray it with 'Gunk' engine starter.. it's either , and seal the cotton ball in a ziploc baggy with the unwanted chicks,,, really easy, they just go to sleep.

I've also put down a very sick hen with the cotton ball inside a 1 gallon zip loc over her head, just be sure most of the air is out of the bag, and you hold the opening tightly around her neck/ body, and don't let any air exchange ... Takes about 10 minuits ... ( the owner, was totally opposed to any violent method)

I spent a couple of hours looking on line on a way to put down my hen w/o blood and w/o having to do anything inhumane. For the past year she has had a fallen crop. This spring she was dragging it on the ground and when I saw the sore I knew she was in great pain. I saw the post on shooting with a pellet gun and followed the instruction of aiming at the back of the head. She died instantly. We have to do what we have to, but we don't have to be cruel about it. This was the first time I had used the pellet gun. No more suffering.

If you shoot a .22 CB round, it has little or no gunpowder, and in a long barrel, like a rifle, it make NO noise at all. A headshot with this will do the job and the person standing next to you won't know a thing. It is always painful to have to end a life this way, but sometimes this is the best alternative.
