Humane Society chickens????

Typical. If you really want to rescue a pet, choose one from your local animal control department. Doing so you will truly be saving a warm hearted pet from certain death.

Usually dogs and cats have a higher adoption fee, but small animals or birds that aren't large parrots are not expensive to adopt. That's very peculiar pricing. Maybe because they aren't used to getting chickens, they didn't have time to think this through.

They had a bunch of cochin roosters at the pound near my house, they sold them all in a week. I bet they rescued them from cock fighting and then just sold them back into the buisness.

One urban humane society I know gave me the darn hens because they didn't want to deal with housing and feeding them.
You should have asked to speak with the director. Sometimes people who work the front desk don't know anything. And to kill her?!?!? Terrible. The newspaper should know about this, but it's too late to save her now. Perhaps they could implement a change in policy! Or the director should be fired.

Someone had just dropped it off! Thats the point they didn't nurse it back to health or anything. The only thing they did was call you, I have worked with a dog rescue as a foster and yea, they would rather kill the animal than give it away. But we are not talking about pets we are talking about livestock? They should have told the person who brought it there to take it to a farm or stand there while they called you and stayed the hell out of it. Please call the papers, to report this. When I lived in PA the papers got a hold of a story like this and community outrage prompted a completely revamp on the way they handle adoptions and they got a new director. (I hate to see any one loose their job but if they are not doing it well they should move on) Sorry for the rant but I am fuming mad at this story

I told her that is what I just paid for my 63 barred plymouth rock chicks. They ended up killing the chicken

Humane Society....sounds more like Inhumane society to me. How could they kill a beautiful little Silkie?

Insenstive and uncaring people who kill innocent and beautiful chickens make me sick.

A few years ago I happened to see that the Regional Animal Control had some chickens they had rescued or found. Light Brahmas.
So I called and was told I could come and see if I wanted any of them.
This involved a ferry ride which cost a bit of money but I was willing so I went.
I chose 2 and went into the office to pay for them. The worker said she was so happy to see them go to a good home that she didn't charge me anything!

(As it turned out they were both roosters so I rehomed them to a farm where roosters were welcome. That cost me another ferry fare but again I didn't mind.)
