So i got my first incubator over the weekend (YAY!!!) and put a dozen in right away. Today is day 4. At first i had the humidity at 65% but lowered it to 35% after reading all the helpful hints here at BYC. Now i can't get it above 25% without it spiking back up to the 50's. My temp is even at 99 and I've been adding water by the teaspoon as to not get it too high but I'm just having any luck...is 25% too low for these early days or will it be alright until i raise it intentionally for the hatch?

What kind of incubator is it? A teaspoon at a time has me throwed way off. Some of mine I add a couple gallons at a time. Sure the Styrofoam ones I have I can only use a few ounces at a time. 25% might not be to low, but personally I would rather have a little higher. Do you candle to monitor the air cells in the egg?
Are you adding a teaspoon to a sponge??

Sorry, I guess I should have specified! It's a hovabator 2362n with the fan and egg Turner. I'm just adding the water directly to the water Wells in the pan.

did you put a thermometer/hydrometer inside the incubator? I ask this because my little giant still air incubator's digital thermometer/hydrometer is terribly off and unreliable for lack of better words. If you haven't I suggest buying one and putting it in the incubator.

Forgot to add: I have not candled anything yet. I don't even know what the air sacs should look like at this stage...

Yes, I did :) it's just a little acurite thing but I bought it new and let it sit out in my house so I could gauge it's accuracy. It seems right on luckily

My question should have been---do you plan to candle to monitor air cells----being you were asking if 25% was to low----the air cells will tell you.

You said you add water to the "wells" in it----wells means more than one to me?? You should start out by filling the smallest well only---if you spill any in the other wells while filling the smallest----your humidity will get up higher until the spilt dries up. If filling the smallest only and the humidity is to low----fill the nest biggest only after the smallest dries up. Humidity is controlled by the water surface not the depth---so if you put a little in it and it covers the whole bottom of the well slightly---you could just fill the whole well and should not be much difference in the humidity. Also keep in mind if your room the incubator is in has a high humidity----so will inside the incubator.

Good to know! Thanks for the info! I added water to two wells instead of one and am at 35%. I definitely have a lot to learn haha
