It's only day 1 but I am so nervous about all the eggs failing so here I am again with a question.

So humidity reader says 47% and the temp reads at 99.5*F. My own calibrated thermometer says about 100*F which sounds about right considering the reviews I've read.

I don't have anything to compare humidity to, unfortunately. The manual says I need to have the little vent thing open either halfway or a third of the way. If I have it the way they say to have it, the humidity gets to 52%. I haven't let it go long enough to see if it gets higher.

So I keep the vent completely open and if I have the temp on the incubator set to 99.5 the humidity reads at 47%.

Should I be tweaking anything? I know it can go up to 50% in the first 18 days, but do I really want to let it stay around there?

I have cornish LWF not the cross and 2 of these my first one stays at 52% then pops down to 33% over night my second one lets not talk about it came over heated killed 15 poults then they sent me a broken replacement Fan broke and wire smells . Anyway the first one the amazing one does great at hatching . add water to just a terminal the top gret thing opens and closes the vents will let out moisture so check it . if you need too close it . also . Best of luck with your Serma's

Thanks! What I've taken to doing is putting in just the tiniest amount of water every so often. It keeps the humidity somewhere between 28% and 32% (unless both my hygrometer and the incubator's are way off).

It's not a perfect setup but things seem to be doing well. The temp on the incubator says 98.5 (the temp spiked way high after I tried to screw the console plate back tighter so I could push buttons) and my thermometer stays between 99.9 and 100.2. Figured since the 98.5 and the 100.2 is both ok for the eggs and I don't feel too much heat coming from the incubator like I did when it spiked to 101 or 102 that it's ok.

The chicks seem to be doing fine. No one is cooked and the few I candled for my son yesterday (which was day 3 of this setup) showed bigger embryos than a few days ago and they were wiggling ^.^
