I have also set my first eggs last Saturday and from ready on BYC the humidity question varies from person to person but around 40 -50 day 1- 18 and then 50 -60 day 18 - 21 is about what I am finding. I just got finished reading a couple of books about chickens and they both have way higher percents. Like 70 - 80 then 80- 90. Mine is at 46 % and on day 7 the air sac looked right for 7 day but is my humidity to low? I know it can cause defects so I want it to be right.
Thanks
Billy

I agree, you hear so many opinions about humidity. My first hatch I ran 60 - 70% but I had a few of my chicks die while hatching, not sure if humidity was the reason or not. I decided to lower the humidity to 40 - 50% on the next hatch, had better luck but had to help one chick out of the shell and I'm not certain if it was because the membrane was dry or he was too big for the shell because he wound up being the largest of the bunch.

Yes it is a big difference in 40-50 and 70-80. Just want the chicks to be fine.
