I have the attached incubator (look at photo) and having an issue with keeping the humidity where it needs to be. I understand the more expensive incubator the better control over things, but thats not in the cards for us right now. Any suggestions on how to keep the one i have under better control?

Mine works just fine and humidity is accurate. Have you been adding water to the channels?

Yes. When it dips below 52% humidity i add water to the fill #1 spot. However, when i wake up in the morning my humidity is super high. I take the vents out and it drops back down but if i leave the vents out over night it gwts below 50....just cant win

50% is high for the majority of incubation. I shoot for 35%.
You only need to add about a quarter cup of water at a time otherwise it will naturally shoot up higher. Leaving the vents open overnight doesn't allow the humidity to stay locked in so of course it would dip. Add a quarter cup of water when humidity is 10% lower than what you want and do not leave the vents open.

You can ask 10 different people and get 10 different answers. I keep my humidity around 35% during incubation to allow the eggs to loose the moisture they need to loose. When I put the eggs in the hatcher I raise the humidity to around 75%. This is what has given me my best hatches. Where you keep your incubator and your climate will affect it some. I experimented. When I started hatching I was incubating at around 50% and during lock-down around 70%. Luckily the eggs weren't special, I was using a friends barnyard eggs. I gave him the chicks that hatched. My initial hatch rate was around 60/70%. Now my hatch rates are 85% plus. What works best for someone else may not work out the best for you and vice versa. Good luck and have fun...

I like running 35 to 40 average then bump it at end. This gives me my best hatches. Depending on the breed 100 % hatches. Marans 85% and I'm happy.

I have two of those incubators

I crack the lid slightly and adjust the temp so it holds where I want.
This is monitored by a separate thermometer and hygrometer.
My humidity stays around 40 with this.
