Humidity too high; will chicks drown?

Agree with Jean, no harm will be done by sneaking a couple out to candle them. This might offer your dtr the reassurance she needs. I love to candle eggs. There is something incredible about holding an egg in my hands and seeing the chick dancing inside it! Though, at this stage the eggs should be so full of chick there will be little dancing, but she should still see some movement.

The important thing to remember at this stage: The chicks should be in position to pip, so you will not want to change the position of the egg when candling. Simply pick it up (if you need to) and move the light around the egg, instead of moving the egg around on the light. Late stage candling, I often do it without picking the egg up out of the bator.

As long as you have no external pips, no harm will come from a temporary decrease in humidity, especially since the humidity ran high during incubation.
