day 2 of a hatch (will never do this again - too stressful) and 4-H info inadequate to do this correctly IMHO...

anyway, I pulled the vent plug this afternoon and now after returning home 6 hours later two of my "starteds" appear to have dried up membrane at the holes...

I know - "DONT HELP" but I feel like I've done this. One egg doesn't seem as bad as the other; the other egg is a goner, I think (very hard to tell in this mosh pit of chicks); do I do anything for the one who might still be alive?? mist the egg w/warm water? I've only got a couple more that might hatch (can't read the numbers on the eggs and we had 3 that we were pretty certain weren't going to hatch based on the last candle)

I just don't want to be a chick murdered by having screwed up the humidity...and I feel like I should add some moisture to the environment in there but I don't know how. This is why we don't hatch eggs...

Any help is appreciated...sorry to be such a pain...

Hi! It's just my opinion... but if you know the humidity was off, you don't have anything to lose by 'helping' chicks hatch.
Just go slow and stop if you see blood. There is a detailed explanation of 'helping' in one of the stickied threads.
Good luck!

I just had to help a chick, my humidity is showing to be good..but he just wasn't progressing and the membranes were definitely dry. Boggles me why...but he did not progress after zipping like another one did right before him.
So what I did was snatch the egg up, close the door quickly, then added some warmer water to the pans. I have a funnel, so I don't have to open the door again. Helped to get the humidity up a bit and then level out.
Still not sure though why he had so much trouble, my humidity seems to be perfect.
