I’m starting run 2 I hatched out 15 chicks some didn’t make it. I opened the egg to see if I could tell what happened. All I saw was a full chick the yolk sac wasn’t absorbed yet. I candled them all before lock down they were all alive and moving. Can someone tell me what I did wrong? Also what does everyone keep their humidity at? I honestly think that’s a big part in it.

Sorry to hear that some of chicks didn’t make it. Unfortunately that sometimes happens and often with no apparent reason. I’ve certainly experienced it with some hatches.

For humidity I usually run 45% for the first 18 days then 65% for lockdown but that suits my incubator and home environment. Not everyone is the same so monitoring air cell growth or weight is best.

A couple of links I hope you find helpful ~

Thank you!

big changes in humidity right at pip time are the killer .. the exposed membrane reacts to it, gets hard, contracts, gets elastic, or slimey .. typical scenario - the lid is removed when they are pipped, the membrane 'toughens up' and they never penetrate it and suffocate right as they are needing ti start using their lungs ... so, its not any single humidity number that does it, its the change at the critical time .. but some chicks are just weak and die ..
