I have a LG and am trying to get it set up and running so when our eggs arrive early this next week, we can get started. I am having humidity issues. I can not get it about 40% is this ok. I have tried the pie tin of water, and the sponge; and all to no avail. Any suggestions will be most welcome.

Hmmm ... try running a vaporizer or humidifier in the room where the incubator is if you have one. Add another sponge and or filled pie tin more. 40% is okay for the first 18 days (40 to 50% range) but you need to get it closer to 60 to 70% for the last 3 days of incubation. Remember your humidity and temp will go down when you set the eggs in for a few hours or overnight so don't worry til the next day if that happens.

IF I understand this humidity thing correctly......40-50% is good for the first 18 days and then "lockdown" (the last 3-4 days) should be humidity of 60-70%.

Is this good to keep hatching chicks healthy and not "drowned"?

IF 40% is good the first 18 days.....should be no problem......?

To Sillystunt:

Hmmph!

In FLORIDA, the chicks would "sweat enuf" to make their OWN humidity (not considering the hurricanes).....................

Is your house still standing or did it sink or blow over???

THAT place SCARES me......and I ain't afeered o' nuthin!

(I know beaches in Mexico what don't have them "herricanos")
(very few, if any, militant Cubans there either.....bunch of Columbian druggies now, though........darn!)

Gettin' humid here lately (High Desert Plains). Temps in the 90's and sprinklin' rain by afternoon. (no hurricanes)....Just some breeze when we're lucky!

I figure "sponges" in the bottom of the incubator is the BEST IDEA for raising Humidity! (Those little ones like we use in the kitchen sink.)

Thanks for the input. We now have the humidifier going as well, hopefully that will get us going. We are a dry climate here as well (eastern NM), but we have had rain recently. We just want to have a good first group. We are new to this and are excited. It's like being a new parent, you want to do everything exactly how it should be done.

I am in central fl so i am OK! Block construction and i ain't afraid of no hurracaines after the darn earthquake i was in while living in cali....LOL

LOL, i have lost 30 lbs due to sweating hahahahah
sponges do work good~

Glad you are getting it ready BEFORE the eggs get there!!

Over the next few days, keep playing with sponges and containers of water. A little bit of tweaking works wonders.

I'm guessing we're about as dry as you

I have to add water about every other day.

Have fun

When I was a NEW PARENT........I wasn't much concerned about "doing everything right", like Dr. Spock's nonsense......

What I WAS CONCERNED about was makin' sure I could pay the bills and keep plenty of food, etc. on the table. Doin' things "Right" just sorta seemed "natural"..........

That attitude is probably why my children grew up to be kinda average crazy folks.......
