Does anyone know what kind of bird this is? I think it’s alive (heard a little trill/chirp) but did not move when I got near.

Edited to add: I am in central Iowa!

Wow. I can only guess maybe a juvenile Black-Chinned Hummingbird. We only have Ruby Throated with very rare sightings of the Rufous here in Louisiana. If you don’t already have one, I’d get a feeder set up so you can attract more.

Edit: I left out a word

Talk about an interesting find. I originally thought a juvenile Black-Chinned Hummingbird... but the yellow and white is a mystery. Are you able to see her eyes? Is she larger or smaller than your thumb?

This is my pointer finger. I’d say bigger than my thumb, and her eyes were closed. Apparently she wasn’t dead because she’s gone now...unless she has met some other misfortune!

I really don’t think so. Female ruby throated are mostly light green. I’ve never seen a male or female Ruby look like that. Also, I just saw the OP is in Iowa so I retract my Black-Chinned guess.
Yes, I should have mentioned I’m in central Iowa! Thank you for clarifying!
