Looks like a female ruby-throated hummingbirdView attachment 1912523 View attachment 1912524 View attachment 1912525 Does anyone know what kind of bird this is? I think it’s alive (heard a little trill/chirp) but did not move when I got near.
I really don’t think so. Female ruby throated are mostly light green. I’ve never seen a male or female Ruby look like that. Also, I just saw the OP is in Iowa so I retract my Black-Chinned guess.Looks like a female ruby-throated hummingbird
Also looks like a juvenile broad-tailView attachment 1912523 View attachment 1912524 View attachment 1912525 Does anyone know what kind of bird this is? I think it’s alive (heard a little trill/chirp) but did not move when I got near.
This is my pointer finger. I’d say bigger than my thumb, and her eyes were closed. Apparently she wasn’t dead because she’s gone now...unless she has met some other misfortune!Talk about an interesting find. I originally thought a juvenile Black-Chinned Hummingbird... but the yellow and white is a mystery. Are you able to see her eyes? Is she larger or smaller than your thumb?
Yes, I should have mentioned I’m in central Iowa! Thank you for clarifying!I really don’t think so. Female ruby throated are mostly light green. I’ve never seen a male or female Ruby look like that. Also, I just saw the OP is in Iowa so I retract my Black-Chinned guess.
