Hunched, not eating/drinking well, runny poop

Keep us posted! 😊
As of this morning, her crop was still hard when she woke up but I was able to get some oil, a tiny bit of baby food (apple), egg yolk, and mashed blueberries in her and massage her crop. I was using an Eye dropper so it might not have been much but it’s something, and liquid. She still won’t eat or drink on her own. Her crop is a tiny bit softer and I can feel seeds in it now, it didn’t quite feel like a hard golf ball afterwards. I’m going to repeat the process in a little bit, she did seem to perk up and happily let me massage her and give her pets! Her poop was still the same but I’m hoping I was able to break some of it up so it can start moving through her system.
She definitely wasn’t as lethargic, her face was redder, and she was super curious walking around my living room bawking if I wasn’t right next to her.
Im really hoping this is a good sign, but I do know chickens are experts at hiding how bad they feel too.

Thanks for the update! Crop problems are difficult to diagnose as to why they are having trouble, so many reasons why a crop is slow to move.

Sounds like you are doing a great job with her! If she were my bird, I would definitely rule out everything I could by Worming her, using Corid for possible Coccidiosis, using the Baby Oil or Stool Softener for possible impaction and keeping her hydrated. When food isn't moving out of the crop or intestinal tract, yeast will develop. I have had great luck with Acidified Copper Sulfate to clear up all types of yeast infections chickens get. You might consider purchasing at some point, it's a wonderful thing to have on hand. https://www.twincitypoultrysupplies.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=340

You can purchase Antibiotics (no prescription required) from this place as well.

Chickens heal slowly, I am glad to hear she is a tad better! Keep up with all you are doing, try to keep her hydrated as much as you can to help move this gunk through. If you are drizzling water in her mouth, go slow, keep her head level not back and drop into the front of the beak so she doesn't aspirate.

Keep us posted! 😊

Thank you so much! I am treating with Corid and a dewormer as well. I will order the acidified copper sulfate you mentioned as well. ☺️

I found Denegard on their website, is this the antibiotic you were speaking of?
Denagard is for Mycoplasmas, hopefully you never need that. 😁 It never hurts to have Amoxicillin on hand however, it's a broad spectrum antibiotic and treats many types of internal infections. I usually go with capsules that way I can individually treat one bird (putting the meds in baby food and giving orally) so I don't have to keep them separate from the others putting meds in water, no need to treat the entire flock and the sick bird doesn't have to be separated. 😊

Shows how little I know 😅 I didn’t think to look for amoxicillin hahaha thank you ☺️

For future reference:

Acidified Copper Sulfate is mixed: 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water. It's bitter so I usually add 2 or 3 teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar to the mix, I use a 1 gallon plastic water container. Shake it well each day, I pour out what I need that day and each day, and use it for several days and then make a new batch. Depending on what's going on with the bird in question or the flock, sometimes I let the entire flock drink it. It will clean them out of all yeasts and even some bacteria beak to vent. Always use probiotics for several days after treatment to replace good bacteria and digestive yeasts killed by the copper. (Sometimes I get them started drinking it by orally syringing a bit in the mouth, some birds are sure it's poison. 😁) Use copper for 7 days, 10 days max.

As for Amoxicillin: It's usually dosed 500mg to 750mg a day depending on the weight of the bird and severity of the infection, (for example 250mg twice a day or 3 times a day) I crush it in a mortar and pestel because the bigger chunks will clog the syringe.) I put the 250mgs of powder in 1 or 2 mgs of baby food and slowly syringe into the mouth. Continue use until 3 days past all symptoms. Use probiotics after using this medication as well.
