hunting

Congrats on the muzzle loader deer. I've yet to harvest one with a muzzleloader. I've had such stupid things happen when I was hunting with my muzzleloader, I couldn't begin to list them here. Maybe someday......

I wasn't sure if I was going to get one either. The 3 times I went out before with a muzzle loader I have had no shot because of thick cover, misfire and the deer were at my blind waiting for me whenI walked up and had not shot through the thick cover.

4th time was the charm.

Congrats on everybody deer this year.

Its been a bad year for us on deer this year DH got nice buck and nice doe ,I have got 2 does so far 92lb and 112 lb. and 4 deer given to us so we have meat in the freezer. In the past years we get 12 to 14 deer not this year .We give some deer meat to people in need. It is short this year for everybody .The coyote are bad this yr. on the Ft. Jackson .I think they had killed over 50 at Ft. Jackson. They said they are killing more than 70 % of the baby deer that are born.

WOW! I'm not being nosey, but where is this happening? I'm not familiar with Ft. Jackson.

Sounds like you need to add coyote population control to the offseason hunting schedule. Predator hunting is getting popular. With furs paying nothing they are not being trapped and hunted like they used to.

Holy crow! 12 to 14 deer? You must have quite the population down there. I haven't had venison for three years and not for a lack of trying.

One deer is a huge blessing for us up here.

We had a great German wirehaired pointer that was a well trained bird dog. DH and I are to the point we don't bird hunt anymore, so the dog was going to waste and that dog loved to hunt. We decided to sell him so he could go to a home where he could do some hunting. We advertised him for $1,200. We got a lot of calls, but of course people balked on the price, even though they said he was worth it, they just couldn't afford it.

One woman in particular was very interested in getting the dog for her husband. She said they had a limited income but her DH really loved to hunt. We lowered our price to $800. She still wasn't sure she could swing the deal, but my hubby said come look at the dog and maybe we could work something out.

She showed up with her hubby. They looked at our dog and fell in love with him and wanted him. They wanted to work out some kind of deal.

He proceeded to tell my hubby the story of how he had lost his arm in Iraq. The guy was a true hero. He also told how he had rigged up a bow and the things he needed in order to be able to hunt with one arm!

My hubby was so impressed he gave the couple the dog and told him, "Thank you."

Not long after that we read in the news that this young hero was awarded the Silver Star for his actions that day that he lost his arm.

My heart and sincere thanks goes out to all of you guys.
