Hurricane Florence

Oh...looked at what I think is the "latest" info on the hurricane tracker - looks like it has been downgraded to a 2 and is deteriorating. If I understand correctly will land fall around Wilmington NC. Of course, something like this spreads far and wide - looks like it will track south (to you) then make it's way to me LOL

You just never know until it comes in - hopefully it will break up further.
Downgraded from 130 mph winds to 105 mph winds still spells h-u-r-r-i-c-a-n-e.
STAY SAFE!

We are staying. Its not mandatory to evacuate here. We live in a concrete building. We are 3 hours from the coast. I wanted to out them in it inside. (Wish I had a garage) they'll probably be in my living room or bathroom in the crate.
If you can put the crate in the bath tub or shower stall behind the shower curtain they should stay calm and be fine. I was delayed in finishing one of our coops this spring and had 47 hens in a 6x6 ft coop for a couple of weeks. It has three 6 foot long roost in it. They would sit 15 birds on each roost two sat on the floor. Just check there water and feed often as they may knock them over. Say safe and God bless:caf:hugs

Don't be deceived. even if it goes back down to a Cat 1, the biggest threat from Florence is gonna be Storm Surge and inland flooding from the 30-40 inches they are anticipating to fall. One other thing, even a TS can throw a lot of dangerous projectiles around that could easily take out a chicken. If it was me, I'd keep them in the house any way I had to until the worst of it was over.
Good luck. We're all praying for everyone up there.

Yes, I realize it's a hurricane .... I'm not deceived at all
Even though I live in the Western part of the state over 340-360miles from Wilmington, experience has taught me to not take these events lightly. I try to be prepared to the best of my ability. Most gas stations in our area were out of fuel last night. (I'm glad I started preparing last week:))

What the folks on the coast are going through must be something else. I hope everyone that needed to be has evacuated to safety.

The mask diaper works an a standard hen, as long as she's not overly big or super-fluffy. If you want to make them last longer, line them with a couple of super-thin panti-liners, just stick 'em to the mask. You need to check them VERY frequently, as pasty butt can set in quickly with a diaper to block the ... errr ... flow.

@MROO

That is awesome!!! I have to remember that one! :thumbsup
