Hurricane Irma Advice.

Hurricane Irma is going to hit GA, where I am. Is there any extra precautions I should do to keep my chickens safe? Me and my girls have never been in any severe weather before...... Will 75-80 miles per hour wind blow them over? It will hit Monday night thru Tuesday. Also, there is a chance of a tornado. What should I do?????!!!! I really appreciate ANY help!

I am in pinellas county where irma will be going right over. I have 10 hens and plan on bringing them inside. I have 3 dog crates with hay for them to ride out the storm. I just think it will be to bad for them to be out in their coop as the coop may not make it. I figure a little stress inside for them is better than death.

Agreed - bring them inside the house. Have extra supplies on hand for them in water tight containers. Consider giving them Nutri-Drench or some other water soluble vitamins to help boost their immune system during the stress of the storm.

I've got family that refused to leave. Irma is going to be a direct hit on at least four homes of family. All we can do is pray and hope that no one dies or is severely injured in the storm. And for those of us that love animals, we include the animals in our prayers and hopes.

I've already opened the "door" to take in (foster or adopt) animals that are affected by Harvey and now Irma. Will see what happens.

Mine have to ride the storm out in their coops but I have around 200 plus birds. I did close the vents because I was afraid if the wind got under the vent covers they could get ripped off. They all have plenty of feed in their feeders inside the coops. I'm near Ocala. This is an older picture and we have added a couple more coops since it was taken.

If the storm was not going right over me and the winds were not as they will be i would leave them in their coop but I think it will just be to much plus I only have 10 so it is easier for me to bring them in. Hope your stay safe during this.
