Hurricane Preparedness!

Hey Mike, I'm sorry I got totally sidetracked and never got back to answer you! It looks like there are quite a few places for your hens to get some cover from rain. I can't tell from the pictures though, do you have a way to secure the plywood when it's in the down position? A good gust of wind could easily lift those up and if anything scare the begeezus out of your girls. A slide or loop lock would probably work for the most part but if we are going to expect hurricane winds, I would go ahead and nail them down, at least until the storm passes. Hope this helps!

I'll try to get some pictures of my set up when I get home tonight...

erika changed her path and went next to the island instead of on it but her winds were still strong and my electrical box at the end of my street went on fire and they didnt come to fix it till yesterday. we also got some of fred but mostly just some lightening a drizzle of rain and that was it.

Hi Mirandaleecon,

SO, I got a bit busy and didn't do my e-mails around storm time BUT here is an update.

Thanks for the reply about my coop, i use SS hook and loop latches, the ones with the spring clip attached for 'coon safty'.

The biggest thing, and hardest to deal with is errosion both from storm run off (heavy normal rain PLUS additional tropical rain) AND MY excavation EXPERTS whom i have securly locked up in my coop, better known as our 'girls'.
They love to undermine everything. The coop sides and the run sides as well as the platform which i keep their coop upon!

Anyway, I need to lower the overall depth of my garden soil for use in the run to do some repairs ( fill ins) as well as preparing the run for future 'decoration' by the girls. LOL
I am back here every night so i will look for future threads
