Hurricane season 2024

Pics
We've been without power since 7:30 last night. A hot shower sounds really nice, but no hot water of course. No ETA on power restoration. A lot of tree damage but we are all ok - severely stressed but unharmed. We put our girls back out this morning to forage and due to the high winds still in our area, they were freaked out so I put them back in their run - they were relieved to be back there after two nights in jail in our house. They are looking better now but there is a huge tree, approximately 90 feet tall, leaning right over them, the roots are ripping out of the ground on the east side and the west side is right over their run and coop, literally. If it falls, all under neath gets crushed. We were just out there and it is creaking badly. As if there is not enough to worry about. Do you know how hard it's going to be to get a tree service to cut this down anytime soon? Not going to happen. So, it's fingers crossed by the Grace of God that it doesn't fall on our girls or a dog. I will be devastated. This wind needs to stop. I am grateful we are all ok but geez - these things are so stressful. 🤪 😧

Oh no! Can you support the tree with something to hold it up until it can come down safely? Or build a temporary pen elsewhere for the chickens?

I don't know what that could be. It is about 8 feet in circumference and is super tall. It sounds like the creaking -- which is about every 30 seconds as it sways in the wind -- is about 3/4 of the way up the trunk. I'm so stressed about this. I need to learn to let it go and whatever will be will be. I thought about ratchet straps but I'm afraid we would only put more stress on the trunk and we have nothing to tie them to on the other side.

Gosh that’s tough, I’m so sorry to hear. I hope it holds out. But I’m glad to hear you’re doing okay otherwise!

Marshall man said give them a good 24 hours to access all the power outage before they start fixing it. Said they need to see what needs to be done every where first...then figure out how/where to start.

They have the worker men lining up to hit the road as soon as the sun comes up.

This was a great Live, I was watching til after midnite here. It looks like emergency services are doing a great job with rescues! Thanks for posting it, Kiki.
