Hello.. I posted on the injured forum yesterday and I have had no response so I thought I would give this a shot...

I have about a 1 month old chick she was hatched by a broody hen and there are 6 chicks total.. I free range my chickens so they wander around a lot..

One of the babies has been limping and lagging behind everyone.. When I picked her up her right leg is limp and she will not move it.. I do not see any broken bones.. just a scratch about an inch long on her hind leg.. I checked for absses and I even reopened the wound just a little to see if there was any drainage and there was none.. Here is a picture of her.

....

The white stuff is anibiotic ointment.. she is able to hold the leg up so she can hop around but she is not moving her foot at all.. I can touch her foot.. move it around.. but she gives no response.. so she is about to lift her leg but not move her foot..

any suggestions.. ?4

Nothing you can do. Just hope it heals. When that muscle gets damaged it will cause them not to be able to use the leg properly as well as being painful to do so. If it appears to not be suffering I would leave it alone. I would also spray the wound with bluekote to disguise any pink spots. If it doesn't get better within a month or appears to be suffering I would cull it. I have seen some nasty wounds heal up without any intervention.

Thank you.. you are the only one to even answer me about her.. I will just keep my fingers crossed and hope all goes well..

Put her in the warm place with food and water it will help as well. When my chick was sick I put a heathing pad under the thick newspaper and doggie pee pad on the top and laundry basket on it. Feed her some live mill worms it will help to recover soon.
