I came home to find one my hens hiding and not moving. She is the one that always comes to me. She won't open her eyes and it looks like something has got ahold of her. One of the tips of her comb is gone and bleeding and there are feathers missing from the head and back of neck area. Could the rooster have done this? He is only about 6 months old and his spurs are still only 1/4 in or so. I have attached pics. She is separated and I have cleaned the wounds and given some vitamins. She seems very stressed. She was fine earlier today even layer an egg.

Hi there,
Poor little hen!!

Yes indeed a rooster can do the damage. If a predator had attacked her in that spot, she would likely be dead or missing, so the rooster is 'prime suspect'.
You have done well to separate her. Keep the wound clean & dry, lots of love and treats and she will be back to her own self soon I'm sure.
As for the rooster - keep a very close eye on him. If he is rough with the other girls, you may want to replace him with a more gentle fellow. Certainly if he becomes aggressive with you he needs to go. Old rooster will make a good stew also............

Thank you so much for the response. She is my favorite. The rooster will be finding a new home. She does not seem to want to eat or drink right now is that normal? I am making her some scrambled eggs hoping that will entice her.

Ok she is eating eggs but keeping her eyes shut...do I need to do anything else for her this evening? I have her in the house.

She's probably a little 'shocky', hopefully nothing worse. Try to encourage her to drink a little. Keep her warm and quiet. Tomorrow if she's not drinking, remind her gently by dipping her beak in the water pot. Scrambled egg is fine, mashed well. also if you use crumbles or pellets, mix a little with warm water, add a dollop of yoghurt and make a 'slurry' of it. That way she gets her nutrition and water too. Good luck and keep us posted please!

She has taken a sip of water on her own. After more inspection it's her left eye she will not open the right seems fine now. Should I bring in one her buddies to stay in the house with her she seems lonely.

Does she have any other injuries? That is an awfully small wound to cause any level of shock........
it's seems as if her left eye has been hurt she will not open it. Other then the patch of feathers missing from her head/neck(probably the size of a half dollar) and she had the tip point of her comb looks like chewed off I can't find anything else.
