Long story short, thanks to a young goat one of my quail pens released it's inhabitants ( will not happen again) We are still finding stragglers and sadly so is the cat. My daughter had 2 fawn hens, one died, the other was caught by the cat, I got her away and didn't find any blood, but we all know that the teeniest cat scratch can be fatal to birds. I know the little thing may still die of stress, but is there anything I can do to keep it from dying of infection?
I've got PennG, can I give her a drop by mouth or in the water?
She's in a safe pen, with her re-caught, familiar pen-mates, sugar water and plenty of feed.
And does anyone know why these things always happen to the pen with your best/favorite ones and never a pen with nothing but excess roosters?? Is it just that such things are ruled by the Gods of Irony? Grrrr
