Husband bought a Teflon bulb. (Solved)

Most electric supply stores have a wide variety of incandescent bulbs. Lowes or Home Depot might be good to look for them.They are available online, but with postage , it will be I hoarded several boxes when they started doing away with the higher wattage bulbs. You used to could get them so cheap—now they cost at lot more. Here is a lamp bulb at Lowes that is incandescent and dimmable (the kind you need)

View attachment 1683156 He says that because we are using it on the outside of the coop, the chickens will be okay...But it's under the coop. Can someone confirm that he is right? The bulb that we use for their water keeps burning out within days of putting it in. He is making me a no waste feeder today and I believe he is starting to get upset with how much everything is costing... I told him the dangers of Teflon at the store, but he started getting angry. Maybe he is trying to kill my chickens off. Can someone tell me that they'll be okay? It's a 100 watt bulb. I'm attaching a pic of where it's going to be. It's under the pan in a brick surrounded by sand.

I think that your husband is right assuming I am correctly reading your post. The bulb is going under the metal pan outside the coop? Does that mean the bulb is essentially underground in the brick? If so, is the teflon coating really that much of a concern? I could be totally wrong, but I thought that the main concern with teflon poisoning was the birds breathing the fumes in an enclosed space.

Girl - I feel your pain. My husband reacts in much the same way. I built my coop all by myself in 100+ degree weather, and I just needed help sliding the roof panels up, and I thought he'd lost it! "This is YOUR project...." etc, etc. I ended up asking my 72 year old mother for help, and she was more than happy to help. Then when I was getting ready to build the run, he went out and bought a really expensive one. I was so confused...

I would HAVE to switch out the bulb without my husband knowing. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. Makes everything so much more difficult and unpleasant.

I found a 75 watt incandescent that I'll switch out this evening. It's a really nice day so it won't be turning on before then.

No. Not always. We've been tight on money and I believe that it's just getting to him. He sprays lawns and he's just now going back to work so thankfully things are starting to look up.

That first year or so of raising chickens can get spendy, as you are figuring things out. Money concerns don't help matters. Glad you were able to find a bulb to switch it out, and that he's able to get back to work.
