Since we are in the process of finding a new place and plan to move south next year... he's not sure I should take on the commitment right now. Is he right? Should I wait? Or do you know some good arguments I can present FOR raising some right now? I can't see any problem with just moving them with us.

Btw... right now we have a yard. I think his worry is that we may not for the 9 months we are still in WA and they'd have to be indoor duckies and get regular outdoors time etc.

I think your husband is right on this one. Hold off on getting more pets until you move. If you have to rent finding a rental with animals is harder. There will always be ducks when the time is right.

I agree with Alice. That way you don't have to dump any extra money into housing for them and then having to go and build a new coop later. Just spend your time now planning your future duck coop. ;)

Having raised chickens for most of my life and having moved a number of times, I agree completely. Wait until you make the move, then get your birds.

Yeah, sadly waiting is probably best.. for one the housing is likely not the most portable, next birds get accustomed to a place, to move is not impossible but brings forth a challenge and last why hassle with pets if your moving?

Nothing wrong with planning and organizing in the meantime however!
