I may be the freak of the bunch...but I bought the dyson.
Best 400.00 I spent. I LOVE that thing!
I clean stuff just to see the crud that thing can pick up!!!

I vaccuumed the couch with the old one. then I used the new Dyson. AND STILL GOT A BUNCH OF CRUD!

I thought my house was clean....until I got a GOOD vaccuume.

I use a dustpan to scrape mine out. Throw it all in a bag and toss it in the compost pile - the plastic bag which I reuse
