Yeah it was definitely scary!! I don’t know what I would have done if he hadn’t gotten his leg unstuck himself cause he wouldn’t let me help him. I’ve never seen him like that. Poor guy was just like blindly flailing about and crying 😭
Aweee!! Trying to save a life but not get messed up in the process.
Sometimes, I wonder what exactly goes on in their minds!

Well, he wouldn’t have died or anything since it was just one leg caught in it but yeah basically! And I wish I knew haha

I guess fell through wasn’t really the right word. He didn’t like fall all the way in it or anything but his leg fell through was more what I meant but yeah. Poor guy was so scared. And I was worried he’d break his leg or something.

It's funny how they can be. I have two and each of them either fit the description or they simply don't.
Shadow, my stubborn boy - when it comes to running, he fits the husky to the core. But at home, he is not hyper, not a digger, hates water, and you rarely hear a sound from him unless he's stretching. Stella, fits the high-energy part along with digging and chewing, the howling, her love for water and ice, but out on a run and she just wants to be with you more than running.

I personally believe they're a smarter breed of dog. That's why sometimes I think they understand 🤣 these dogs were bred to run miles to a destination, while also following the commands of a musher - including to ignore distractions. They're very smart! That's why it's so crucial for them to be stimulated.
Yes, they are runners. But also fugitives and seekers of their own way. Our husky was found using Facebook 50 miles away, he was young then and couldn't find his way home. I also want to say, please do not be offended. I only compare Youtube huskies who sing and talk. Unfortunately, 90% of them are not huskies in the United States. At the moment, I don't even know how to grow the real husky in California. We have a maximum of 30 C (86 F) in summer and the dog sits in a cold bathroom. He also just changes his winter coat. In winter we have -25 C (-13 F ) and this dog prefers to live outdoors. Our dogs are in the house at night because we are inhabited by wolves, and bears all around.

When I first read it, I thought you were making a joke that your dog was found actually using Facebook 50miles away 🤣🤣 that dog RAN! 🤣 I don't know what I would do!?
I completely agree, it's become such a loose term because most people I know aren't aware that there's an Alaskan husky or they think its the same.
I have been wanting to do dog DNA tests but almost $200 for the one I want and it's not worth it just to know but I have wondered what it would say.

The Wisdom one is only like $70 and I thought it was very accurate!! DB did it on two of their dogs. You could try that one if you don’t wanna spend the $200 on the Embark :)

Anyway, he started freaking out, panicking, thrashing around much like your dog. I tried to pull his leg out but he wouldn’t let me help and bit me a few times out of sheer panic. So I backed off and thought about what to do since he wouldn’t let me help. I was kinda freaking a bit too. Thankfully though, while I was thinking, he somehow managed to pull his leg out on his own! Idk how he did it. And he was totally fine too miraculously 😂🤣

I was wearing gloves thankfully so not too bad damage but he still broke through them and broke skin on my hands. But he was so sorry too!

For clarification, this dog doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Sweetest, gentlest, “softest” dog ever. Zero aggression normally. And he absolutely LOVES me!!
Wow, yes that sounds similar - and it is scary! Even the nicest dogs can freak out in the wrong situation. I'm glad both you and him were OK.

Our dog was always sweet and gentle with us, our other pets (even small ones who annoyed him) and most people, though we could never totally trust him around children aged between around 5 to 10. He didn't trust them, because at our old place with the fence, we had little jerks for neighbor children, who would lean over their side of the fence, call our dog over, and then throw rocks at him - another reason I'm glad we moved. Fortunately, our grandkids were older by then, and for some reason he loved toddlers and would wag his tail and do the "pet me" belly flop whenever he saw a toddler on our walks.

Thankfully he was okay! But so sorry for your loss :hugs
Thank you, @Madhouse Pullet. We really miss him, and our little Maltese who we lost just four days earlier. It was a huge blow to lose them both in the same week, even though we know we did the right thing for both of them. But the house seems really empty, especially when I get home from work - or go for a walk. Or feed the chickens, or get out of bed and realize I don't have to watch where I put my feet, because nobody is sleeping down there. It's been a few weeks, but it's still tough.

I remember when our family dog died, we all kept expecting to hear him even a month after. You get so use to their presence and their sounds that you don't think twice until it's not there anymore. It amazes me that dogs live a short life but make huge impacts in our lives.
I know it takes time but I hope it gets easier 💜

Yes, it is common to use FB here when a pet is missing. In minutes, an ad is shared to hundreds of people. I was called the next morning, my dog was found. We don't put paper ads on the posts because many pets are from the countryside. We have the majority of the population living in cities. Our country is covered by almost half of the forests.
Some people have dogs with a ring tail, they are not huskies. They are Alaskan malamute, or mixed breed with Siberian husky. Malamutes also have heterochromia iridum- eyes of different colors, they are often considered huskies.
An allergy test costs here over 100 euros. I have 2 dogs and both eat 25% grain-free food (which is very expensive) 75% they eat home food. Husky is allergic because he may start coughing sometimes. I don't even know how much cost DNA test in here. But it would be interesting how much it shows a wolf. I think a lot.

It would be very interesting to know. I have wondered if my Shadow is mixed with something else because he looks like a husky but much bigger. I have tried researching malamute but he doesn't fit the description either. It would be fun either way.
I read a review on Amazon for a husky that the person adopted at a shelter and it showed that a grand parent of their dog had German shepherd but the others were all Siberian Husky. Thought it was extremely fascinating.
If I ever do end up doing it, I'll let you know!
