I'm getting a lot of production from my 20 hens that are at 21 weeks now, and realizing I underestimated storage needs. I've got a second fridge/freezer in the basement that was Plan A, but forgot that a lot of garden produce goes in there this time of year. Plus with the covid impact on goods at the grocery store we've been buying more bulk groceries and that is also claiming a lot of fridge space, and the freezer is already packed. I looked around and found a few articles about using the lime water method, and was wondering if anyone here has done it themselves and what their results were? I know nothing is a guarantee but if I believe half of what I've read I could be storing a couple hundred eggs each in buckets of this stuff in the basement for as much as 8 or 9 months!

There were a couple of good youtube vids on this, one on how to do it and another following up on how well it worked.
I'll see if I can find them.
Here's the first one, the follow up vid is linked in the notes:
I don't recall anyone here trying it.

You could sell or give away some of the eggs
I want to keep the eggs, especially as I won't be doing the artificial light thing over the winter so production will drop off for many months. I just hadn't realized there'd be such limited room in the extra fridge/freezer and that means I need an alternative. I suppose I could sell some now and just buy store eggs later when what I can store runs out, but I'd hate to do that.

Thanks, I'd found those too after reading some articles and wanting to see what it'd actually look like. I was a little hesitant when some folks had suggested the same cost saving method of getting the lime at a builder's supply store but that seems to be an actual good idea. Maybe I'll just go for it and see what I get :) Sometimes my experiments in permaculture and old time growing and preserving yield surprising results, so I guess I'll just give it a go 🤔

Very interesting and informative. With the uncertainty of this COVID-19 world we are living in who knows what changes may or may not be coming.
Modern society is so dependent on instant gratification, social media, takeout food etc, etc! Self isolation really confused this modern world....as I write this on SOCIAL MEDIA, IRONICALLY.
