hygrometer help??

Walmart and Target both carry them. They're around the garden and landscaping stuff here. I can't think of anything else that you can use. I know sometimes people do without, but I think they're fairly important especially while you're figuring out what your bator and climate require.

They are usually part of a thermometer/hygrometer unit. Find the thermometers and they will be there.

thanks i found one at walmart. com for like 7 bucks... i am so excited its my first time and i cant wait

You can put a wick on a thermometer and take a "wet-bulb" temperature reading. Together with a chart, you can convert this figure to humidity.

It comes in handy for hatching and also your brooder!

Make sure you calibrate your hygrometer (1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup salt in a mug, closed in a sealed plastic bag with your hygrometer for 24 hours-- should read 75%).

My hygrometer/thermometer combo, brand spanking new, was 10% low. Could have made for a disastrous hatch.

And get spare batteries while you're at it.

You may want to buy a couple to put in various spots in the incubator. i actually like to use a couple different kinds. i tend to find the Walmart one a little less reliable than the Flukers digital, seen here:

They have them at Petco and Petsmart, and on Amazon, too. They cost more than the Walmart one, but i trust them more. You want to keep fresh batteries in them, because when the battery gets low, they give off wrong readings. But mine have lasted a year with almost continuous use before needing a new battery.

Good luck!

You can also find hygrometers at a cigar or smoke shop. They use them for their humidors. I found some relatively cheap ones, that are pretty accurate there.
