Just wondering if the Hygrometer is supposed to go inside or outside the incubator? (Sorry if it is a stupid question.)

You want it on the inside. Sometimes peopl keep one in the same room as the bator too if they have big humidity swings in their house and they're having problems regulating the humidity inside of the bator because of it.

In the winter when I'm using the wood stove for heating it can get very dry in the house and I would probably have to add more water sooner to my bator then when I'm hatching in the spring/summer. Someone living in the SE may struggle to keep the humidity down during the summer and knowing what the ambient humidity in the room was could help them understand how to do that---get a dehumidifier etc.

no such thing as a stupid question, with some of the post I've read it can get confusing. depending on you hygrometer the whole thing inside or the probe. i use a dial that go's in reptile tanks, work great, cheep, but don't accidently dunk it in water, you need to but a new one I found out the hard way

Thank for the info...I do have it inside. We just started it up. Trying to get it regulated before we put any eggs in it. I did notice that the humidity was reading 25% so I put a wet sponge in it and it rose to around 50%.

Sorry for the off topic post, but do you keep a pot of water on the woodstove? I have a cast iron kettle that I fill with water and it helps with humidity.

I do, but sometimes I forget and it goes dry on me

I still have to put a humidifier in my boys room or he gets nose bleeds.

I run at 25-35% (no added water) until lockdown. I don't hatch a lot though so maybe someone else will chime in, but that seems kind of high to start out with to me.

Is it a good idea to get more than one digital hygrometer? I have a mercury thermometer in the incubator & a digital one on top. Should I get another one for inside?
