I'm a 9/9 on the Beighton scale, have mildly stretchy skin, cruddy scar formation, fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndrome, bleeding and bruising problems and heart problems. Most of my joints partially or completely dislocate, including things like ribs, spine, and once, apparently had one of my skull plates shift.
My favorite position to sleep in usually involves dislocating my shoulders and usually one hip.
I look like a normal person
I'm 29, and functional because I'm on 5 medications for pain management. ETA: My meds are not dopey making meds. Before them, I was nonfunctional and on the losing battle of filing for Social Security. Now, I'm only in mild to moderate pain all day, I lay down to bed, take my meds, the pain starts getting worse, meds kick in, I sleep soundly through the night (with various joints dislocated), wake up feeling fantastic, take my meds that help my brain function and keep my stomach from eating itself, and off on another mild to moderate pain day - that is still very productive.
MUCH better than horrible, debilitating pain, pain that is worse than breaking bones (and I've broken a lot of those), and tiredness that was never fixed.
Don't knock them til you try them.
