hypermobility/double jointed?

oh wow haha! i thought this thread would sink unanswered into the depths. i'm bittersweet that i am not alone on this. currently i am having a *new* upper back pain and it is hard to raise my arms and hold my head up. i've been like this for 2 days now, though today is better than yesterday. its just so frustrating when every day SOMETHING hurts! its like pain roulette! i am currently w/o health insurance so i cannot go to the doctor for pain pills, so i get to do the "what doesn't kill me, makes me stronger" routine.

yeah i have scared people w/ how flexible my back is. haha chookschick, i'm not that great at splits, since for some reason my hamstrings and inner thigh muscles seem to be the only "tight" muscles on my body. my hips slide out at will, and sometimes when i am walking, they slide out uncontrollably and it causes some nerve pain, to the point where i can't walk anymore. my left knee is my "trick" knee. that started when i was 13. my left shoulder has also started popping out in the last few years and that is PAINFUL and i have had to figure out how to pop it back in by myself. lately my left elbow also pops back into place painful. its like a freaking domino effect. pretty much all of my joints click and pop when i walk or get up. my favorite is when i get up and my hip is not correctly in the socket and my muscle spasms and i double over. makes for interesting convos and ice-breakers!

thank you for the links, i am checking them out. ouch cparian, that sounds like a major pain in the butt! haha booker i grew up dislocating my hips, thinking that was completely normal! i also bruise easily and have had to deal w/ people/friends being suspicious that my bfs are abusing me! i have a heart murmur....ye olde heart attack will finish me off, i'm sure of it! oh man livingzoo, i clench my jaw almost constantly and it hurts so much. when i broke a new (2 week old) crown the dentist was so amazed he showed the other dentist. if my jaw pops---omg the pain.

i cannot touch my tongue to the tip of my nose. my tongue and mouth are very small. they had to remove 4 adult teeth plus my wisdom teeth. the palate is very high and narrow thou. amen callducklover, amen! i worry that people think it is attention seeking behavior, like i want sympathy. just like you, i wish for pain free days. i'm just frustrated.

High palate is another one

I have it, and one of the fun...well, not really fun things is that I apparently have minimal reaction to local anesthetic for dental work - nor does the gas work. The four cavities I have were quite an ordeal..poor dentist. We no longer do "work" unless very necessary - I have a tooth they have been watching for three years now, but we won't fill it until it's needed.

The is a FANTASTIC website and messageboard, based out of England, but open to world wide posters. It's at http://www.ehlers-danlos.org - very fantastic folks there, and if you want to find more, they can point out a good doctor that could assist even if you don't have insurance. There is also information on different things that help, quirks that most of us have. There was a post for a while about funny/bad things that have occurred when you've subluxed/dislocated - like having both hips shift out, and getting stuck in the seat of the toilet

Yeah I had to have shoulder surgery a few years ago because it was totally dislocated and wouldnt go back in-also made a bone spur that had to be cut off and I still cant lay on my left side. I do take glucosamine with chondroitin every day (Osteo Bioflex-sam's club its the cheapest) it help condition between the joints and does ease some of the pain. Low pressure kills me with every passing storm since now at 42 I do have arthritis setting in everywhere that "slips" out. I have found that good diet with lots of calcium rich plants, cucumbers for swelling etc has helped lots-oh well like all of my friends and I say we will be in Powerchairs before retirement

got to laugh because there is no use getting depressed and making everything hurt more

thank you for the link booker! i think i have the opposite problem with painkillers; they usually don't work at all or....they get me high, and then i no longer care about the pain. yesterday i took the recommended dose for an over the counter painkiller that had codeine in it, and was basically high for at least 5 hours. i was slurring, cross-eyed and had some mild hallucinations. my fiance has taken the same dose and is fine. :| also, it didn't stop the pain, i just didnt "associate" with it anymore, if that makes sense.

oh wow i've never gotten stuck on the toilet but i have been a bit stuck in odd positions if i hold them for too long. its always fun trying to extricate myself from them.

i completely agree that you must develop a sense of humor about it or you end up depressed and crazy. the pain in my shoulder/blade/spine is now on its 3rd day, and i must be honest; it's starting to really get to me. i'm getting angry at it and have stopped babying it since that is obviously not helping. it also doesn't help that my fiance is a BED HOG!!!!! and that he likes to steal all the sheets! he's gonna wake up wrapped up tight in them if he doesn't watch it!!!!
