I am hoping that someone here can help with an odd chicken problem:
5 days ago "Boots" (a bantam red barred, about 3 -4 months old) started standing still, fluffed up, by herself, with eyes closed
We isolated her and hand fed/force fed her electrolyte solution and water
Initially when she opened her eyes (when you startled her) her eyes seemed cloudy, now the entire visible part of the eyeball is a dark red (in people, blood in this part of the eye is called a hyphema). It is unclear whether she can see.
She is a little more active (scratching the dirt, picking up a little bit of food) since we put her in a coop inside the coop so she can hear her sisters but her eyes haven't changed.
No drainage from her eyes or nostrils, and the skin around her eyes looks totally normal.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any wisdom!
